Effective Cross-cultural Communication

Effective communication comes in a variety of forms of results-oriented comunication. The seminar objective is to help participants to develop those competencies that will enable them to be responsible in their own right for improving information and relationship outcomes within a multicultural environment.

The mastery of verbal and non-verbal aspects, allied to the strategic models of objectives and feedback gradually leads to effective commmunication: a capacity for long-term relationships, which always underpin success in the processes of managing conflict, negociations, evaluation, groups and teams.

Overall view of intercultural communication: the actors, process, phases and pitfalls to overcome.

How to improve the efficacy of sending out and receiving messages in a different culture.

How prejudice can influence results

Identifying our prejudices, understanding the relationship between convictions, behaviours and results: overall plan for personal and realtionship efficacy.

Efficacy through the choice of words

Content choice in function of objectives: the language of precision in commercial undertakings, the pitfalls of jargon, the techniques of metaphors and analogies.

Questioning: the communication tool par excellence: the types of question and their usefulnessin international trade.

Active listening and reformulation: from theory to practise: habits related to prejudice and emotional reactions. Carl Rogers’ techniques.

Written communication

Trying out journalistic techniques of editorial efficay applied to the commercial sector.

Applying these to e-mail communication.

Efficacy through the non verbal

Developing observation and listening skills : identifying and recognizing body and voice language, key vectors of cultural expression.

Developing awareness of the impact of voice and body language parameters on the interpretation of communication. Applications in an intercultural context.

Using these factors to ask precise questions and guide communication.
